Above: Singing our way to Newgrange Farm!
Newgrange Farm - 28th of May 2018
We set off for Newgrange Farm on Monday, the 28th of May, at 9 a.m. and what an incredible day it was. It was our very first school tour and it was jam packed with adventure, learning and fun! There was great excitement as we clambered onto the big, purple double decker bus and set off for Newgrange in Co. Meath. It was a LONG journey so we were glad when we arrived.
After arriving, our tour began with a trip around the farmyard where there were lots of little stables. There were lots of small animals in each stable and we all got to look at, and pet, different animals. These were rabbits, kittens, goats, pigs, hens and puppies. We also got to see Daisy the Cow and a big white horse. After learning all about each of these animals, we went to look at the baby sheep in their pens.... and they were the HUNGRIEST little lambs!

The Hungriest Sheep Around!
We were so amused by how hungry these baby lambs were. Olive, our tour guide, filled bottles with milk and let us feed the lambs. They nearly knocked the bottles out of our hands. Some of us were giggling so much that we couldn't even see what we were doing!
Milking the Cow!
After feeding the hungry sheep, we each had a turn at milking a pretend cow. Some of us were able to do it really fast. It was a funny sensation at the start but it was easy after some practice.
Holding the Baby Chicks!
We learned all about the life cycle of the hen in school so it was really exciting to see it in action on the farm. We looked at eggs in incubators and saw the newest chicks that had hatched on the farm. Then we got to hold the chicks. They were so tiny and gentle.
Lola the Puppy!
It was so lovely to meet Lola, a cute and playful puppy. She was only eight weeks old!
Touring the Farm on the Tractor
After looking at and cuddling all of the animals, we went on a trip around the farm on the tractor trailer with teacher, Ms. Merkl and Farmer David. We had to shout "Yee-Haw" to get the tractor moving. We saw the Three Bears house in the distance and Daddy Bear was out enjoying the sunshine. We saw a river with swans and ducks. We also saw the sheep in the fields enjoying some fresh, juicy grass. Then, the farmer showed us the Tooth Fairy's Castle. (Parents, it was actually Newgrange!!!) He told us that all of the people at the castle were trying to get their teeth back. Then, the tractor struggled to get up the hill so we had to grab onto the seat in front and push, shouting "Heave-Ho". When Farmer David got off the trailer to open the gate, we all shouted "Yee-Haw" and the tractor drove on without him! It was so funny! We just loved our trip around the farm on the tractor.
Feeding the Hens!
After our tractor ride, we went to the hen house to look at the hens. We got some special feed and gave it to them. They were really hungry!
The Greedy Goats!
We also saw some goats and fed them with some grass - they were really cheeky because they licked our hands as we were feeding them!
The Sand Pit!
We were so happy to see all of the animals on the farm - but we were even HAPPIER to see all of the fun activities that were there waiting for us, starting with the HUGE sand pit!
The Tunnels!
We had so much fun climbing through these dark tunnels. Some of us even found time to bathe in the sunshine!
Tractors Go Leor!
We just LOVED driving the tractors in the shed. It was the perfect end to the tour!
A Great Day!
And after all of this, we finally had a picnic - we were FAMISHED after such a busy morning! When we were tidied up, we got some class photos, and then we got back onto the bus to go back home to tell our Mammies and Daddies all about our first school tour! It was indeed, a great day.
